Heart Attack - Sportsman's Hall, Sun Valley CA 3-11-84

Heart Attack were my favorite of the New York City Hardcore bands and I was lucky enough to get to see them a few times in 1983-1984. They existed from 1980 to 1984 and in that time only managed to release one 7inch ep and two 12inch ep's. This live show was recorded not too long before they split up and features a handful of new and unreleased songs. My personal favorite is Grey Wait. This is a soundboard recording and the sound quality is excellent. Unfortunately, the last song, Grey Wait, cuts off so for completeness I've added the recording of it from the video which is a rough audience recording. Stukas Over Bedrock, Stalag 13 and Justice League also played this show.

On this gig False Prophets were touring with Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers from Italy and prior to this show the bands drummer had a health problem and couldn't play the show. So, Ale, the drummer for Cheetah Chrome Mothers, played with them so they could do the show. Also, other members of CCM play with False Prophets on the last two songs. This is an audience recording and sound quality is good. There is also a video of this show on Youtube which is missing the last two songs.

M.D.C. - Live + Interview 1982-1983

M.D.C. are a classic American Hardcore band that released one classic album a a couple good ones after. All these recordings are from their classic era. The interview was conducted at a time just before their first album was released and the two live recordings are loaded with the songs from that album. The interview is from a radio broadcast and has very good sound quality. The live shows are both audience recordings. The Detroit show has the vocals low in the mix. The California show is the better of the two. Sound quality is good.

Toxic Reasons - Live 1983-1984

Toxic Reasons might be Dayton Ohio's best and only rock 'n' roll export to the world. Between 1980 and 1984 they released consistently great records and after also released good music until 1995. Both these shows catch them in their prime playing songs from their two classic albums. On the 1984 show they play one song from the next album to come and a Zero Boys cover. Both shows are audience recordings with the usual muddiness that is a hallmark of the boombox recordings of the time. Still good enough sound quality to make you wish you were there to witness.

Indigesti - Live 1985/1986

Indigesti were from Vercelli Italy, in the north and existed from 1980 to 1987. In 1982 they released one split 7"ep with the band Wretched before splitting up in 1983. The band returned in 1985 and released one of the most classic albums of Hardcore Punk. They did several European tour and in 1986 their only U.S. tour. The Bielefeld show was recorded on their second European tour and is a soundboard recording with very good sound quality. The Philadelphia show is the first show on their U.S. tour were the band played in the living room of a house. It's an audience recording and has muddy but good sound quality.

I Refuse It - Victor Charlie, Pisa Italy 6-24-84

I Refuse It! were lumped in with Italian Hardcore but they definitely had their own sound that combined major elements of Italian Hardcore with a little jazz and a touch of the Screamers. They were from Florence and existed from 1982 to 1988 and released one split tape with Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers, on single and one 12" ep. This show was recorded through the soundboard and the sound quality is very good. Can anyone fill in the unknown song titles?

Declino - Ungdomshuset, Copenhagen 1-12-85

Declino were from Turin Italy and are one of the greats of Italian Hardcore. They existed from 1982 to 1985 and released one 7" ep in 1984, a split tape/LP in 1984 with Negazione and an LP in 1985. One song from their split tape was included on the P.E.A.C.E. comp LP released by M.D.C. in 1984. The classic line up of the band were Sandro - Vocals, Silvio - Bass, Mungo - Guitar and Tax - Drums. This line up did several tours of Europe before splitting up in 1985 when Tax decided to concentrate on playing in Negazione and Silvio joined Indigesti. In 1986 Mungo moved to Amsterdam and formed a short-lived band with three women from Nog Watt. In 2001 he played on the Indigesti In Disparte CD. Today Mungo and Silvio are authors and Sandro is a soccer coach. This show was recorded from the audience and the sound quality is good.

5° Braccio - Vanchiglia demo (1982)

5° Braccio were from Turin Italy and existed for about one year. They recorded some demos but only managed to have on song released on vinyl. Most of their songs were released on various compilation tapes in Europe and the USA. There were a couple line up changes and ended with Sergio - vocals, Mara - vocals, Tax - guitar, Filippo - bass, and Orlando - drums. After the band split Orlando played drums with Declino on their 1st 7" ep while Sergio did the artwork for that ep. Orlando and Tax went on to form Negazione together. Tax also joined Declino on drums for 1984-1985 while Mara and Sergio went on to form the band Contrazione. Sound quality is very good. I think many of these songs were released on the Blackout A Torino CD collection that was released in Italy in 2007.

Unwarranted Trust - Demo 1984

Unwarranted Trust were an all girls band from Ottawa Canada who are well known for having one song on the P.E.A.C.E. comp. album in 1984. These 4 songs seem to be the only ones they recorded in a studio. This version of Honour's Calling is the same one as on the P.E.A.C.E. comp. Two of these songs were released on the Matrax comp. tape which features all women bands. Track 1 here is one of those songs but listening to the comp. I couldn't determine the other song which is titled "Pay". The other song hasn't been released anywhere else as far as I could determine. Can anyone fill in the song titles? Sound quality is very good.

Honest Injun/D-Ploy/Porcelain Forehead/Unwarranted Trust - Glebe Community Center, Ottawa Canada 3-15-84

Here's four bands from Ottawa Canada recorded live in their hometown. I think Porcelain Forehead might be the most well known band of the four and I saw them once in New York City in December 1983 at an Anarchist Fest at a theater in the Lower East Side with False Prophets, Heart Attack, Virus and others. Unwarranted Trust have one song on the PEACE Comp. album, Honest Injun released an album of older recordings in 1986 and D-Ploy never released anything at all. The recordings from this show are not complete, there are a few songs from each band. I don't know if the person recording it intended to make a tape comp or was just recording bits and pieces of the bands because of only having one tape to record the whole show. These are audience recordings and the vocals are low in the mix but still good enough for a listen just to hear what was happening in Ottawa at the time. Can anyone help identify which recordings belong to which bands and add song titles?

Society's Grudge - Wellington's, Winnipeg Canada 12-15-83

Society's Grudge were from Winnipeg Canada and had one cassette release in 1983 titled To Hell With Heroes before disappearing. In 1983 I bought the tape through an ad in Maximum Rock 'n' Roll and it became a favorite. Unfortunately, I lost that tape and have been trying to get another copy ever since. Recently I got this live recording of the band that has some of the songs on the tape and a few that didn't get released, as far as I know. There's almost nothing about them on the internet. Diodes - Toronto + San Francisco June 1980

Canada had some great Punk bands back in the late 1970s and The Diodes were one of them. They were one of the first Punk bands in Toronto and helped get that scene going by opening the Crash 'n' Burn club. Between 1977 and 1982 they released 4 albums. Here are two radio broadcasts from the summer of 1980 that capture them in their prime. Sound quality is excellent on both. The Mab show is from the collection of Terry Hammer.

Dead Kennedys/D.O.A./Sin 34 - Longshoremen's Memorial Hall, Wilmington, CA 6-24-83

This show is definitely one from the days when Punk was a threat. Wilmington is a neighborhood in south Los Angeles and in 1983 police actions against Punk Rock in L.A. were pretty heavy, apparently. At the end of the DK's set you can here the commentary outside about teargas and the helicopter overhead. Sounds like the show may have ended in quite a brawl with the cops. All three sets were recorded from the audience. Sound quality is a little rough but surely this is one for the archives just to be able to get an idea what it was like in those days. D.I. and Youth Brigade also played but I haven't come across recordings of their sets.
