Riptides - Metropole Hotel, Cremorne Australia 10-80

The Riptides were a Garage Punk Power Pop Surf band that started out in 1978 as The Numbers and released the classic KBD 7inch ep Sunset Strip. To avoid confusion with another Australian band with the same name they changed their band name to The Riptides. The band lasted until 1993 and along the way they released four singles, a 12inch ep and an LP. This live show was recorded through the soundboard and sound quality is excellent.

News - Bernhearts, Melbourne Australia 1979

The News started out as The Babeez and released one classic KBD Punk single in 1977 with Dowanna Love. In 1978 the band changed their name to The News released a further three 7inches. This must be an early show and I do question the year on this since they are only playing two songs from the Babeez single and nothing from the 1978 News single. The Tom Jones cover is interesting but the hit song for me is Nasty Nazi. I don't think most of the other songs have been officially released. It's an audience recording and sound quality is good.

Johnnys - Tote Hotel, Melbourne Australia 1983

The Johnnys were a Psychobilly/Garage Rock/American Wild West style band. Their most famous member was the late Spencer P. Jones who later went on to play with Beasts Of Bourbon. The Johnnys started in early 1983 and before they had their first record out were the opening band for Iggy Pop's Australian tour that year. They were quite popular in Australia and New Zealand, releasing two studio albums and many singles before splitting up about 1991. This live show is an audience recording and the sound quality is good.

Hard Ons - Demos 1985

The Hard Ons are a Punk Pop band that released their first record in 1985 and still seem to be at it in 2020. Two of the songs on this demo were released on a 7inch single in 1986. The versions here seem to be different than the ones on the record. It's unclear if the three version on this demo were ever officially released. Can anyone fill in the unknown song title? Sound quality is excellent.

Celibate Rifles - Fricke Sessions, French's Forest, Sydney 8-23-83

This one is a rehearsal tape recorded in the bands practice room in the Sydney suburb of French's Forest. I'm not sure why it is called the Fricke Sessions but it might have something to do with the Rolling Stone magazine writer David Fricke. The line up on this recording is Damien Lovelock - Vocals, David Morris - Guitar, James Darroch - Bass, Kent Steedman - Guitar, Phillip Jacquet - Drums. Sound quality is good.

Celibate Rifles - VPRO, Amsterdam 9-02-87

Celibate Rifles were from Sydney and might be one of the better known Punk bands from Australia. They started in 1979 and finished in 2019 when singer Damian Lovelock died. Over 40 years they released 14 albums and numerous singles. They also toured throughout Australia Europe and North American. Quite a good run. This recording is from Dutch radio. Sound quality is very good. Unfortunately, my tape is apparently missing the first four songs.
